Memphis is moving in the right direction with a new sense of purpose.
In only two years, Mayor Wharton has inspired and produced the most dramatic results in the recent history of our city.
There is progress at every turn, from new jobs to better quality of life, from neighborhood revitalization to government transparency, from new downtown improvements to dramatic reductions in crime, and from minority business development to new ways to make city government more efficient.
These are the tangible achievements from only two years of Mayor Wharton’s leadership. But the intangible achievements are just as important: a new self-confidence permeating all of Memphis, a new “can do” attitude propelling exciting progress, and a renewed pride in what makes Memphis special and distinctive.
Already, the progress of the past two years is attracting national attention – from the national media that used to disparage Memphis and from the nation’s most prominent foundations accustomed to ignoring Memphis.
The reelection of Mayor Wharton ushers in four more years of achievement, advancement, and action as he executes his plan to make Memphis a city of choice. It’s a plan for attracting and creating good-paying jobs, developing opportunities to move poor families into the mainstream economy, developing and attracting talented workers, and building brighter futures for all our children.
Great cities have great mayors. That’s why we overwhelmingly elected Mayor Wharton for a full term of four years. Memphis now has its leader. A C Wharton is a great mayor for a great Memphis.
