Coalition for Better Memphis: Highest Marks for Mayor Wharton

Written by Tom Jones.

The Coalition for a Better Memphis overwhelmingly ranked Mayor Wharton as the most qualified candidate in this year's city elections.

His overall rating was 95, which was the highest for any candidate in any race, both the mayor's race and City Council. The second highest ranking for a candidate for mayor was only 79.  All candidates were rated in their qualifications and experience, a vision and process to address important issues, and the ability to implement their vision.

Coalition for a Better Memphis, created in 2005, is an independent, non-partisan, not-for-profit organization composed of a diverse group of Shelby County individuals, businesses and organizations; the CBM is focused on enhancing the quality of life for residents of Memphis and Shelby County.

Candidates are rated after submitting answers to the Coalition's questionnaire and after being interviewed in person.  In keeping with Mayor Wharton's commitment to transparency, his replies to the questionnaire were posted to this website at the same time they were submitted to Coalition for a Better Memphis.
