Mayor Wharton: We Serve, We Remember
It's hard to believe that a full decade has passed since the terrible events of September 11, 2001. Please take a moment to remember the thousands of people who lost family members and loved ones that day. We remain grateful for the selfless sacrifice and courageous dedication of the first responders, policemen, firefighters, and volunteers who gave everything that morning. Their heroism lives on as an unforgettable example of America's true greatness, and our thoughts and prayers are with their families.
This Sunday, September 11, please join me for a unique service event, "We Serve, We Remember." This collaborative project by our One Memphis initiative, MIFA, and Urban Art Commission will focus on beautifying some properties on Kney Street near Chelsea and Guthrie Elementary (free, secure parking is available at the Dave Wells Community Center, 915 Chelsea Avenue.) More details can be found by clicking here. We'll be getting started at 10:00 a.m. and I look forward to seeing you there.
