Mayor Wharton has issued a statement with Memphis City Council Chairman Bill Morrison condemning a bill introduced by Tennessee Senator Mark Norris and Representative Curry Todd that would overturn Memphis' annexation agreements.

Mayor Wharton, in setting out four priorities for his next term in his January 23 State of the City address, repeated his theme:

"This is our moment.  This is our time." 

In this term, Mayor Wharton said he will concentrate on four priorities: 1) Create safe and vibrant neighborhoods; 2) Grow prosperity and opportunity for all; 3) Invest in our young people; and 4) Advance a culture of excellence in city government.  To create a sense of urgency, he announced an ambitious 100 days agenda that will launch a number of major new programs for City of Memphis.
